Camera M 5.0 Update

Camera M Version 5 Update

Welcome to Camera M 5! We are delighted to show you what we have been working on during the summer….

Macro and Manual Focus

We have made some extensive improvements to manual focus for macro captures. Let’s look at them in detail:

Minimum Focus Distance

When the lens is in the closest focus distance, Camera M now displays minimum focus distance in centimeters, providing you a better idea of how far the camera lens should be positioned.

This feature is available on all devices, on all cameras capable of manual focus, running iOS 15.

In addition, after popular demand, we added values to manual focus adjustments for better reference. Also, the manual focus adjustment mechanism has been greatly improved to be smoother and snappier.

Minimum focus distance reporting is also present within Focus Quick Change Menu. This allows you to quickly change the lens into macro position, at the closest possible focus distance, without even opening the Focus screen — and now, you will always know how close the focus distance is, in centimeters.

We believe Camera M is your ultimate tool for capturing amazing-looking macro images with incredible detail — providing you with incredibly smooth and accurate manual focusing, a movable 4x magnifier loupe, and focus peaking in fullscreen or within the magnifier!

Major UI Changes

For those of you with iPhones with Home Indicator, we have have the most significant user interface improvement!

We moved all the Preview Screen buttons that appeared inside the camera preview area down to the control panel, out of camera preview area, closer to your fingers. Now all those button controls are closer to your fingers.

Support for iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and New iPad Mini

As expected, Camera M is now fully optimized for iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, and the new iPad Mini.

Now you can manually focus down to 2 centimeters with the ultra-wide camera on iPhone Pro. Regular RAW format is also present for that particular ultra-wide camera; however, we imagine ProRAW would be your preferred choice here.

ProMotion 120Hz Support

We were highly excited for 120Hz ProMotion support for the first time on iPhone! We opted in for 120Hz for all the important animations. As a result, the main manual controls feel extremely smooth and more accurate, while the rest of the interface feels more responsive.

iOS 15

Camera M is now fully optimized for iOS 15!

We made improvements to Golden Hour Widget to keep it up-to-date more reliably. Camera Type Widget has been updated to detect all the new iPhone 13 camera types.

Camera M is still exclusively powered by native APIs, without any dependency on outside sources.

We optimized the code to make Camera M more efficient. We dismantled all the main screens and reconstructed them and reapplied the layout rules to be simpler. This made Camera M layout more lightweight during runtime and most importantly the download size now is even smaller than before!

For those who are interested in a more technical aspect of app development, Camera M is developed and built in the latest version of Swift and Xcode. This is the main reason why the app feels extra responsive and the app download size is extra small — for example, on iPhone 12 Pro Max it is 7.6 MB. This is a major accomplishment for us since Camera M is a full-featured manual camera app that also runs natively on iPad and has the Apple Watch extension.

Apple Watch Series 7 SUPPORT

Camera M is now fully compatible with the new screen sizes 41mm and 45mm of the Apple Watch Series 7.

Other Changes

  • We improved localization and region support for main control labels, especially for the German language and region.

  • We temporarily removed the depth blur preview. It was the cause for unresponsiveness during switching cameras in Depth mode. However, it will be back in a future update.

  • We also made numerous other minor bug fixes and improvements throughout the app.

We hope you capture incredible photos with Camera M!
