Camera M 7.2 Action Button and Volume Button Action Update

We introduced switching cameras using the Action Button with our version 7.1 update for our iPhone 15 Pro users. So you might ask, what is this update about then? The big news is:

Apple now officially lets developers support hardware volume button actions for camera apps.

This allows us to handle hardware button actions locally, without any less reliable workarounds or going through App Shortcuts to make the Action Button work.

So what exactly is different now?

Action Button Camera Switching for iPhone 15 Pro

Just as with the version 7.1 update, you can now switch through available rear cameras with the Action Button by setting up the App Shortcut ‘Switch Cameras.’ Also, there is no need to press and hold the Action Button to actuate, simply press and let it go – much faster.

Volume Up Button Action

Camera M always had volume button action for photo capture. However, it was less reliable due to workarounds us camera app developers had to implement. No more! Apple now officially supports it since iOS 17.2.

Simply press the volume up and let go to capture a photo.

In Burst mode, we made it possible to hold down the volume up button to capture photos in succession. With our ultra-fast Burst mode, it is a delight to use this feature.

Volume Down Button Action

What about devices without the new Action Button? We thought about you guys and made it possible to switch cameras through the volume down button, just as you can with the Action Button. This goes for any iPhone!

Some Notes

Please remember that you need iOS 17.2 or later to enjoy these functions. We will always keep at least one hardware volume button dedicated to capturing a photo since our users love pairing this to a selfie stick or other Bluetooth-actuated devices.

We have a feeling that Apple will give us more functionality with the hardware buttons in the future, and we will be looking forward to using it.
