Camera M and Accessibility
We aim to make Camera M as accessible to more people as possible. Our recent improvements in this area have proven to be very successful with our current users. As of version 5.3.3, we have now completed our first major step towards accessibility.
Dynamic Type with Bold Text Support
As of version 5.3.3, all of Camera M supports Dynamic Type and Bold Text, including the main manual control labels, EXIF viewer, Camera Profiles display, and all of our Widgets (Home Screen and Lock Screen).
Increase Contrast Setting Support
Simply with the "Increase Contrast" setting on, you can make several main UI elements to be brighter. The camera grid and the level were some of those elements that were paid particular attention to. Also, as shown above, the camera switcher on the bottom right and the ISO/Duration labels in the middle pick up bright white from grey when this setting is on.
Light Mode Support
As a camera app, Camera M’s main interface has a dark theme to give precedence to the camera preview or photos. Although the interface adapts to Dark or Light themes, the majority of the UI contained dark-themed elements. As an accessibility feature, now we have Settings, Camera Roll, and EXIF Viewer in a light-themed design that responds to the interface theme set by the system.
Reduce Transparency Support
Turning this setting on in Accessibility makes all the semi-transparent blur background elements to be opaque. We made sure those interface elements still maintained contrast and legibility in both dark and light modes.
Tools for Visual Accessibility
Magnifier Loupe
View objects four times closer while being able to freely pan around the scene for precise focus control.
Focus Peaking
Makes manual focus easier by highlighting the edges of the elements that are in focus within a scene.
Highlight and Shadow Alert Display
Displays blown highlights in red and crushed shadows in blue, making exposure adjustment much easier.
Gray Card Calibration
Simply point at an element that is in neutral grey or white in color within the scene to calibrate the white balance more accurately.
We will be continuing our efforts to make Camera M even more accessible with upcoming updates. Meanwhile, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach us at contact@camera-m.com.
